Highlights from the 2014, 21st annual For the Kids Dinner

A night to remember.

Thank you to all of our generous donors who attended the 21st annual 'For the Kids' Dinner at the Bank of the West Classic. Over $200,000 was raised for YTA programs, a huge success!

San Francisco Giants minority owner, long-time YTA board member and San Francisco philanthropist Bob Sockolov was presented with the Arthur Ashe Award for Excellence in community service.

Willie Mays was honored for his dedication to underprivileged youth and especially for his help with the re-opening of our YTA site in Hunters Point last year. He appeared in person to accept the honor and brought with him his godson and fellow SF Giants great, Barry Bonds!

Celebrity broadcaster Ted Robinson conducted a captivating interview with top womens Pro Tennis player Sabine Lisicki, who was filled with enthusiasm for her tennis career and life in general.

We also heard from our own inspiring tennis stars Hillary Phu and Azaria Hayes about there experience in YTA programs and their aspirations for the future.

National Arthur Ashe Essay Contest Winner from YTA

One of our YTA students, 10 year old Makda Dawit, who plays at Mosswood Park in Oakland, won the USTA national Arthur Ashe Essay Contest (one of ten winners in the US). Makda gets an all expenses paid trip to the US Open with one of her parents to receive her prize. Having YTA students write an essay on Arthur Ashe each year is one of YTA's four core projects our kids do as part of our College Pathways program.

Congratulations Makda!!
